HPE drops smartarray and switch now finaly to LSI Megaraid in Gen12

hi,

today I take a look through the Gen12 quickspecs and found out that SR controllers are no longer available as options. Seems that HPE has switched complete to the OEM LSI Megaraid controllers.

From my perspective, a very bad move. I personally don't like the LSI tools. Also, the lost the complete knowledge and give it out of the hand. So if we have a problem with the controller's HPE must ask LSI for support and from my experience with other vendors there will be no answers or fixes.

The most broken raid arrays and volumes I had on LSI Megaraids in the past. But may be that this in only my experience.

A next step to lower the outstanding quality of the Proliant server systems in my eyes.

From HPE perspective it makes it cheaper and easier to take OEM stuff like this, but then HPE must start lowering the prices of the hardware because they come step by step to the same level as much cheaper other vendors.

In the past the Proliant systems were outstanding cause the HPE solutions like Smart array, ILO, longterm compatibility (do you remember how long for example during Compaq (x86, alpha) time the same disk trays were used?)

Also, LSI belongs now days to Broadcom, and we see on the market how Broadcom acts, like VMware, FC Switches, Network Chips....

What do you mean?
